Etymology: Luxilus: Latin, luxilus, derived from Lux = light, refered to a small silvery fish (Ref. 45335);  coccogenis: coccogenis, meaning berry-red cheek (Ref. 10294).

North America: upper Tennessee River drainage in Virginia, North Carolina, Tennessee, northern Georgia and northern Alabama, and adjacent tributaries of Savannah River in North Carolina and South Carolina, Santee River in North Carolina and New River in North Carolina, USA.

Biologi     Ordlista (t.ex. epibenthic)

Inhabits gravel and rubble riffles and adjacent pools of clear, fast creeks and small to medium rivers (Ref. 86798). Common in cool, clear streams with rocky substrates. Feed on mayfly nymphs and other aquatic immatures, with some terrestrial insects during spring, while summer food consists mostly of insects taken at the surface, with aquatic immatures (Ref. 10294). Oviparous (Ref. 205), probably nest spawners like congeners.
