Ecology
Marine; brackish; demersal. Tropical; 10°C - 33°C (Ref. 97140); 29°N - 17°N, 98°W - 73°W
Western Atlantic: Gulf of Mexico coast from southern Texas to Key West, Florida and along the Atlantic coast north to Miami and Cape Canaveral, Florida (Ref. 104557). Reported from Jamaica (Ref. 27228).

Adults inhabit seagrass beds and algal mats in very shallow, protected waters. Also found in bays and rivers (Ref. 97140). They prefer fully saline water (Ref. 7251). Salinity ranges from 0.0 to 37.6 (Ref. 97140).
