Etymology: Synchiropus: Greek, syn, symphysis = grown together + Greek, cheir = hand + Greek, pous = foot (Ref. 45335); goodenbeani: Named for George Brown Goode and Tarleton Hoffman Bean.

Marine; demersal; depth range 47 - 396 m (Ref. 31053), usually 100 - 200 m (Ref. 31053). Subtropical; 43°N - 23°N
Western Atlantic: Georges Bank off New England, south to off the Florida Peninsula, through the Straits of Florida, and along the coast of northern Gulf of Mexico.
