Western Indian Ocean: known only from the Persian Gulf, but perhaps reaches into the Gulf of Oman.

Épines dorsales (Total): 0; Épines anales 0; Rayons mous anaux: 40 - 43. Belly with 25 to 27 (rarely 28) keeled scutes from isthmus to anus. Tip of snout above level of eye center, usually about level of upper rim of eye. Maxilla moderate, its tip projecting just a little beyond edge of gill cover; first supra-maxilla absent; jaw teeth slightly enlarged compared with other species. Blotch behind upper part of gill opening absent or very indistinct.
Pelagic (Ref. 68964). Presumably schooling. More data needed. Apparently common but seldom seen in the market at Kuwait.
