This species is placed in the genus Dinotopterus in Eschmeyer (CofF ver. Mar. 2011: Ref. 86697) following Ferraris (2007: Ref. 58032).

Facultative air-breathing (Ref. 126274); Has been caught at a depth of 55 m over a muddy bottom. Feeds on fishes and crustaceans (Ref. 5595). Indications that this species might perhaps normally be found in shallower regions (Ref. 78218).
