Juveniles bear conspicuous black tip on the dorsal fin and often join foraging groups of similarly sized and looking flagfin mojarras, Eucinostomus melanopterus. The snooks mingle with the mojarras and prey on fishes and shrimps attracted to the digging activity of the mojarras.
