This species was found in a small natural drainage, direct tributary of the Rio Amambaí, not deeper than 50 cm and with low flow in an area totally exposed to the sun, parallel to BR 487 highway. The region has a smoothly undulating terrain and the area of occurrence is at an altitude of 327 m a.s.l.. The drainage has a clayey substrate, which gives an orange water colour when disturbed. Only Gymnotus aff. carapo Linnaeus, 1758 was found co-occurring with this species (Ref. 119399).
