Adults occur over sand bottoms near rocks where they feed. Form schools (Ref. 6770). Females brood their young in the mouth (Ref. 86760).
Eggs from the cleavage phase and larvae of up to 1.38 cm TL are mouthbrooded by female parents ranging from 8.6 to 10.0 cm SL (Ref. 86760).
