Épines dorsales (Total): 7; Rayons mous dorsaux (Total): 9-10; Épines anales 1; Rayons mous anaux: 9. SL to about 28 mm. Body highly compressed and without scales except on the caudal peduncle on some specimen.
Facultative air-breathing in the genus (Ref. 126274); Live among live coral branches (e.g. Pocillopora and Stylophora) (Ref. 1602). Also found in inshore channels in Acropora thickets (Ref. 48637).
