Distinguished by the following characteristics: Anal fin with 27-29 total elements; body depth 14.3-15.9% SL; head length 20.0-21.9% SL; head depth 11.1-13.1% SL; pectoral fin length 13.1-16.6% SL; pelvic fin length 12.3-13.8% SL; many small, brown spots on head and trunk (Ref. 5218).

Obligate air-breathing (Ref. 126274); Inhabits mudflats of estuaries and tidal zone of rivers. Lives in deep burrows. Occasionally seen in markets in the Mekong delta (Ref. 12693).
