Etymology: Stenogobius: Greek, stenos = narrow + Latin, gobius = gudgeon (Ref. 45335).
Eponymy: G H Blokzeyl discovered this species. He may be the same person as A H G Blokzeyl who was (1856) the first Dutch Governor of Bali. He collected fishes and reptiles and sent collecections of both to the Leiden Museum. (Ref. 128868), visit book page.
