Etymology: Stenogobius: Greek, stenos = narrow + Latin, gobius = gudgeon (Ref. 45335); marqueti: The species is named in honor of Gerard Marquet in appreciation of his extensive collection efforts in freshwaters throughout French Polynesia and the discovery of four new species of Stenogobius.
