Etymology: Eviota: No etymology given, suggested by Christopher Scharpt: from Latin 'eu' for 'true' and 'iota' for anything very small, in combination 'truly very small' referring to it as being the smallest vertebrate at the time it has benn described by Jenkins (thus, making the suggestion by Scharpt plausible.;  geminata: Name from Latin, geminus (geminata) for twin; in reference to its being highly similar with Eviota randalli; noun in apposition..

Description synthétique Morphologie | Morphométrie

Épines dorsales (Total): 7; Rayons mous dorsaux (Total): 8; Épines anales 1; Rayons mous anaux: 8. This species is distinguished by the following characters: cephalic sensory-pore system lacking IT and SOT pores; 8/8 dorsal/anal fin-ray formula; pectoral-fin rays15, some branched; non-fimbriated genital papilla; non-filamentous dorsal fin in both male and female; posterior on body between anal-fin origin and caudal-fin base are 3 moderately broad internal bars; a broad orange band from top of eye and forward to ventral eye area, extending to the chin as oblique blackish bar (Ref. 94740).

Found in reef slopes and coralline blocks. Collected by ichthyocide, the female from a shallow slope of a fringing reef with coral patches, 5-12 m, at the seaward side of the island, the male at about 12 m from the opposite side, with a steep slope down to 30-40 m (Ref. 94740).
